As many may know, a year ago we lost someone near and dear to our hearts, minds, and creative processes. As the time for his departure drew near, I knew that I had to come up with an engaging and truly 'THATbirdDID' way to end our run as partners.
At the time, I was in a pretty dark place creatively speaking. Over the 9 or so months before Buck's departure, I had been faced with a number of creative and professional challenges. I don't wish to call specifics into question, because I'm over it. But in the Fall of 2016 I'd had two huge projects -- one that I had put probably 150 free hours into, and another that for once was actually getting popular-- that, for reasons beyond my control were completely derailed. Follow that up with your best friend and creative partner moving 3k miles away, and well, of course I wasn't going to make a happy movie.

What better way to start this soon to be prodigious series off, than with the first project I ever actually handed in for a class. In this article “I” will refer to me, Steve, as I am the part of THATbirdDID that actually attended “school” to do this stuff and I possess the “technical skills,” though you wouldn’t know it by watching this video. Here goes: The Real Baby
Ok, hope you enjoyed. As I have now attained the status of acclaimed auteur, I feel that I am finally in the appropriate place to judge and critique my early works, and I chose to start with “The Real Baby” for a number of reasons. First of all, I think that despite its’ rudimentary sets, acting, writing, camera work, editing, etc. you can actually already see our weird style and tendencies shine through.
